LDTTWC - Day 5: "We Can Do It!"

Dang man, are we really over the halfway point of this challenge already? Today is Day 5: "We Can Do It!" and this theme's nails are inspired by an influential woman in history.

I decided to continue with my nostalgic comedy route and go with Lucille Ball. As far as female comedians go, she paved the way for many. When it comes to physical comedy? She's the best hands down.

I was inspired by some nails I saw on Instagram, a design where the ring finger had a top lip painted on it and the thumb had the bottom lip. I don't know now who did it cause I saw it on my follower's activity tab and when I went back to look for it, it wasn't there anymore. But let's be real: it's Instagram, it was probably a repost anyways!

So I went with that and then did eyes and hair, red of course. CLEARLY this is meant to be a cartoony interpretation of Lucille Ball. ;]

I was going to pair the faces with some old fashioned half moons but I decided to add a lil sumptin sumptin by painting inside the hole reinforcement sticker.

Anyone got any recommendations for a good nail polish thinner? I think I'm gonna go get the Orly one, but I'm gonna be honest, it's the only brand of thinner that I've seen in stores. Any good recs or tips would be appreciated!

LDTTWC - Day 4: Lights, Camera, Action!

Hey guys! Look who's got her Let's Do The Time Warp Challenge post ready to go already? Yup, me! Today is Day 4: Lights, Camera, Action!

My earliness is probably due to the fact I knew from the day this challenge was announced what nostalgic movie I wanted to turn into a manicure: The Three Stooges.

I got into The Three Stooges last year when I found the Antenna TV channel. Part of the appeal to me is I love the 30's and 40's and sometimes I just like looking at what the women are wearing. Don't get me wrong, I love the Stooges themselves too, and Curly is my favorite, but I love how people dressed back then.

I based my design off an image from a Three Stooges cartoon I found on Google. I'm not even gonna front, I did this using the plastic bag DIY polish strips method.

Here we've got Larry, Moe, and Curly. The other nails are inspired by the action signs that directors use. I promise you that white thing in my pinky is a reflection from my flash.

Here we've got their name and the mask that comes on at the end of each movie (short? bit? episode? Insert whatever you wanna call them here).

I really think the cartoon is cute, I love how Moe looks happy and friendly and not like he's gonna hit someone like he does in the live-action Stooges.

Of course, I used the picture as inspiration and did my own kind of take on them. Messing around with the bag and strips, plus streaky top coat really could be fodder for a Three Stooges episode. There were a few times while doing this that I wanted to face palm and make a bunch of noises, nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Chalkboard Nails Nail Art Contest: Cool Or Warm

Hey guys! Here's some nails I did for the Cool Or Warm nail art contest over at Chalkboard Nails.

The rules are to either choose warm colors or cool colors to do nail art with, black and white are freebies.

I chose warm colors. I found my striper polishes that I got when I first started getting into nail art and they're still useable. Dude a striper brush sure makes things easier to do. I wanted to try out tribal nails again, and just did random patterns. Call these tribal, call them geometric, whatever they are, they were a lot of fun to do!

My right ring finger is a nod to Mr.Candiipants. I did that nail with a toothpick. Pssh, I still picked up my trusty toothpick, even though I had the stripers!

Yeaaaa I used a lot of polishes for this one. Who knew I owned that many colors in the same color family? I wonder if anyone else doing this contest realizes they own way too many similar shades. Also, I didn't really get a good pic of my right thumb and I really liked that one.

I'm resisting the urge to make this Miss DeVious DiVa's Blog Of Tribal Geometric Nails. I'm for sure gonna do this again, and add in pops of blue and green. It's been HOT in Cali these last few days, SOMETHING'S gotta be cool, even if it's just my nails.

LDTTWC - Day 3: I Remember When...

Hey guys! Today is Day 3 of Neverland Nail Blog's Let's Do The Time Warp Challenge, and the theme is I Remember When...

The funny thing is, I had the most trouble coming up with an idea for this one. I mean, you can do a design based on any special event in the HISTORY OF THE WORLD or your own personal one. This has gotta be the most open ended day of the challenge and it stumped me!

I finally decided to do a design in honor of my Grandma, and her 83rd birthday party. We threw her an awesome luau in her backyard, and it ended up being her last birthday with us. It will forever be a special memory I have. These nails are based on the design of the dress I wore. This is the one theme day where I KNOW nobody will have chosen the exact same thing!

I also used a video from that day as inspiration. I remember walking around taking video of everything, even the food, and I'm glad I soaked up as much of that day as possible. Except since I was behind the camera and busy with that, there's no pictures of me from that day that I know of. To add to it, both my black striper AND my regular black polish have gotten thick. This will do, especially since I totally didn't even want to attempt to accurately redo that pattern, haha.

I honed my rap skills in my Grandma's yard over the years, and as you can see behind me, my uncles had their instruments there too and played. These family parties are what I miss so much about my Grandma's house and why the memory of that day will always hold a special place in my heart! :]
