Kiss Me, I'm Irish

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Today I've got the most colorful #OOTD I've posted in a long time, along with this year's St. Paddy's day nails.

This entire outfit is Fashion Q. The boots were a Christmas gift and I'm still so happy with them, even though they blend in with my black jeans.

Of course my nails had to get in on the festivities. I mentioned how I've been using the same green polishes for years now. This year I found the newest Pure Ice display and I was so excited to actually find it. I see so many people posting that their Walmarts don't stock the new collections. To be fair, I kind of stumbled upon it. It was in a cardboard display hanging at the end of a random aisle outside the beauty section. These are worth the hunt though!

I used the entire Pure Ice St. Patrick's Day collection: Charmed I'm Sure, Be My Clover, White On Time, and Irish I Was Orange. These adorable rings from Walmart made for a perfect match.

These nails are Irish all the way. Sometimes I think of what I want to do in advance, but with these I wasn't sure. My mom really likes the group Celtic Thunder. I remember watching their first show with her back in the day. She was in the hospital a few years ago and when she got out and was recovering she rediscovered them and since then she's gotten me into watching them too. At the end of their newest show they did "Ireland's Call" and when I saw the flag behind them, I got my inspiration. I mean this collection kind of calls for it, right?

It's always funny to me when I do something simple and spontaneous and I end up loving it.

Hope everyone has a good one today!

Thankful Vibes #ootd

It's been an absolutely insane year. Insane in a not good way. My uncle, who took many of my pictures that I've posted here through the years passed away during the summer, after two years bravely battling cancer. I know I've mentioned him quite a bit here and in the months since, I've missed him so much, especially during special occasions when he'd be the one taking pictures.

Thanksgiving is one of those occasions. I think the holidays in general can be incredibly hard after such a loss. Suddenly, that empty seat becomes all the more glaringly obvious.

In a nod to him I went out and got my first "fancy" camera, a Sony a5100. With a tripod and the mobile app, I can use my iPhone as a remote to take pictures of myself. Of course, I'm holding my phone in the pics and I miss having his company but I've been thrilled with the quality. It's not for nothin' that so many makeup artists and gurus love this camera.

So I present to you my first post in a long long while, and I dedicate it to my sweet uncle who was always happy and willing to take pictures for me to post.

Hat, choker, necklace & rings// Forever 21

Shoes// Hot Topic

Top// unknown

Skirt// Gifted

Nails// Wet N' Wild Wild Shine - Black Creme
Wet N' Wild - Naughty and Iced

So can we talk for a second about my pink hair? I've always went to a salon to do my dip dyed pink streaks, and I happened to go the same day my uncle had to move to a home to be cared for. I went to visit him after I got done and he loved the pink and started talking to me about the show Kawaii International and about Japanese fashion. He was just THAT cool. My pink washed out but I wanted to do it myself for his birthday so I ordered Jerome Russell Punky Colour in the shade Flamingo Pink to try it out.

Unfortunately I ended up having to use the pink for his celebration of life instead of his birthday but I'm so in love with this dye that I've had it in ever since.

It's bright and happy and reminds me to him. And for that I'm thankful.

Kimono? More Like Kimo-YES!

First off let me say that my friend came up with that title, and I am not responsible for any groaning and/or falling out of chairs that may result. :)

If there's one trend that's really been hot this summer, it's definitely the kimono. From celebs to fashion bloggers, everyone's enamored with the easy breezy boho look and throwing on a kimono is the cherry on top.

I recently went to Fashion Q and picked up my first kimono. If you follow me on Instagram you know I couldn't wait to style it and put something together.

I got the Love crop top from Fashion Q too and I love how the floral pattern almost matches exactly. I paired it with fringe shorts from Bloom and a fringe purse from Target to complete the look.

When I actually wore this out, I decided to wear sheer black tights and black heeled oxfords to add a different kind of edge to it.

I get my pose ideas from Lily Munster. And I love it.

Of course I needed to match the pattern on my nails too, so I did floral accent nails. I mentioned in my last post how much I loved my black half moon stiletto nails so I did them again, although my nails still haven't grown out as much.

The black is (of course!) Wet N' Wild - Black Creme. The roses are a mix of Wet N' Wild - Tickled Pink, Sinful Colors - Bianca, Sinful Colors - Snow Me White, Sinful Colors - Happy Ending, and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - Espresso.

I can't end this post without a picture of my cousin and I. This was the last time seeing her for the summer so we took a lot of pics.

I hope you're all having a summer filled with making good memories and rockin cute nails.

OOTD: Edgy Florals

Last month my family got together at P.F. Chang's to celebrate my uncle's birthday. It was a really special occasion since we haven't been able to see the whole gang since last Thanksgiving because of various health problems and stuff. So we lived it up haha.

I absolutely adored this outfit that I wore. I usually don't wear long skirts, but this one is so cute and different because of the M-slit and the sheerness. I'm not that much of a flower crown girl either but I combined these red and orange headbands and they were subtle yet still stayed on trend.

The skirt is from Forever 21. The headbands and shoes are from Fashion Q. The pose is clearly inspired by Angelina Jolie.

My cousin and I had to go out and vamp it up a lil :)

On Sundays we stand outside P.F. Chang's mean muggin' !

I wish I had gotten pics of my nails before they chipped. I painted them black with plain half moons and had them cut into a long stiletto shape. I really liked them and I'll probably end up doing them again when my nails grow out long enough.

That's all for now, see you later!

RAWR - Halloween 2012

Hey guys! I got a hold of some pics from Halloween that my uncle took. I felt so crappy for most of October, but thankfully I felt up to venturing out on Halloween.

If you couldn't guess from my Halloween nails, I dressed up as Catwoman, inspired by Eartha Kitt's costume from the 1960's Batman. Yea, I spent a lot of time in bed watching TV and I caught an episode of it and really liked her costume, more than some of the more modern Catwomans.

Yea I know she didn't have a tail, but my ears came with a tail and I wanted to use it. :]

I had fun with makeup and falsies too.
I used:
Prestige Liquid Eyeliner - Popstar
Prestige Liquid Eyeliner - Fame
M.A.C - Retrospeck Eyeshadow
M.A.C - Blacktrack Fluidline
Jesse's Girl - Starshine Eye Dust
Salon Perfect Perfectly Diva Lashes - Enchanting (fitting name right?)

For my lips:
Wet N' Wild MegaLast Lipstick - Think Pink
Wet N' Wild MegaLast Lipstick - Dollhouse Pink
Love & Beauty Shine Lipgloss - Light Pink (there's no name on it lol)

As for my plans that night? My cousin got back in town so her and my other cousin and I just walked around the neighborhood. We went trick or treating at a few houses cause we wanted to send the candy back to her brother and sisters but overall we didn't get much candy haha.

Halloween Week Day 4 - Playboy Bunny

Welcome to Day 4 of Halloween Week!

This was a last minute costume. How do you know you have a last minute costume? When you're at the store the day before Halloween and they're starting to clear out the Halloween stuff to put out Christmas stuff, YOU'RE LAST MINUTE STATUS.

I planned on going as a mummy but it didn't look good so I returned the costume and the selection was bare. I ended up buying a set of bunny ears that came with a tail and a bow tie... which reminded me to a Playboy Bunny and I knew I had this shirt so I picked up the petticoat for the bottom and voila!

You might notice a wheelchair in these pictures. That was a prop, I had it for Hef. ;] Nah I actually had it for a relative that fell that day and still wanted to go out trick or treating. In the end she didn't need it and we put food on it when we walked home from a party lol.

This was back in 2010 and another that I don't totally remember what I used for makeup. We can probably say M.A.C - Retrospeck was the highlight, and I think I used a shiny pink loose shadow from Hot Topic. On my nails I had a glow in the dark polish from Walmart, it came in a set with lipstick.
I also forgot to do close up pics that night. I remember I got sick with the flu the day after my uncle's birthday party that I posted about here and I was still getting over it that night. I'm sick as I type this so blah I needa arm myself with vitamin C in October don't I?

Hopefully I'll start feeling better soon so I can start doing some more Halloween nails!

Halloween Week Day 2: Black & Orange Witch

Welcome to Day 2 of Halloween Week! I promised yall yesterday that today's look would focus on the makeup and nails and I'm coming through!

This one's from Halloween 2009. I had just started my blog and went ALL OUT on my costume cause I was gonna totally post lots of pics and IT WAS GONNA ROCK. So yea, *checks date* what up 2012. Better late than never right?

I got the top petticoat and the hat from Claire's. The black shirt is a real shirt that I already owned.

When I said I went ALL OUT, I did so on my makeup too. Check it out:

I don't really remember what I used on my eyes but I think it involved M.A.C - Melon pigment and probably M.A.C - Retrospeck because it's my favorite and maybe even M.A.C - Fab & Flashy.

The spiderweb was done with M.A.C - Blacktrack Fluidline
Lips was an orange lipstick from Walmart's Halloween stuff with Hard Candy Plexi Gloss - Diamond on top.

Here's a close up of my nails:
I did these with an orange nail polish from Walmart's Halloween stuff and a black nail art brush and pen thing from Forever 21.

I like that this was cutesy and girly but not super skanky haha. That's kind of what I look for in costumes!

Halloween Week Day 1: 1920's Flapper

Welcome to Day 1 of Halloween Week!

Let's kick things off with the only packaged costume that I'll be posting this week: a 1920's flapper. I wore this last year, because I actually had a flapper costume laying around that hadn't been opened.

Now you're sittin there like "why does this chick just have costumes lying around?" and the answer is because my cousin and I were gonna do a routine with the Charleston at a big family party that never went through. So yes, I have not one but TWO of these lying around, and I've got a set of purple beaded necklaces and gloves. Anyone wanna do the Charleston with me?

Yea, the black canvas shoes aren't authentically 1920's, but I walked to a party that night and didn't have black flats so they were necessary.

That is me gettin my Mae West on. Why don'tcha come up and see me sometime? I'll teach you the Charleston.

This is what I remember from my makeup:
Smokey Eyes
M.A.C - Blacktrack Fluidline
M.A.C - Carbon eyeshadow
M.A.C - Retrospeck eyeshadow as highlight

Lips
a combo of all the reds I own & a tiny bit of M.A.C - Kittenish lipstick
Love & Beauty - Cherry lipgloss

Needless to say, I didn't do any nail art haha. I did paint my nails pink though!

That's about it. What did you guys dress up as last year? I think I'm gonna do something vintage again this year.

Part Of Me

When we last left off here at Miss DeVious DiVa, I mentioned going to the movies. Did you guess the movie we went to? If you guessed Katy Perry: Part Of Me 3D, then you're right! (Yea... these pictures are a few weeks old).

If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you might've seen me mention my music favorites in a couple posts: the hip hop supergroup Slaughterhouse. #LadiesLoveLyrics
So when it comes to music documentaries that have come out recently, Ice-T's hip hop documentary "Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap" is right up my alley. I'd be fascinated hearing emcees discuss rap and their bars and how they structure their songs. FASCINATED. Everyone else I know? Not so much.
Alrighty then, so off we went to see Katy Perry. All that said, trust that this is a completely unbiased review: it was good!

Really, it was fun. The concert parts showed her doing all her hits, and the documentary parts were interesting. I gotta give her credit for including scenes that showed such personal moments of her life. It was actually inspiring.

Oh and I popped my 3D movie cherry with Katy. And I liked it. ;] (if you've seen the movie, you'll know that there was no other way for me to word that.)

After the movie we messed around taking pictures. I climbed on a fountain.

And at first I was kind of embarrassed till my cousin reminded me we have to be fun and wild like Katy Perry. So I was like "WHOOOOO KATY PERRY!!!!"
Then she took a pic that looked pretty rad on my camera:
Till I uploaded it to my computer and realized what is UP with my eye? Since everything else looked good, I covered it with a heart. Any problem in life can be covered up with a heart. FACT.

I'm SUCH a f'n hipster.

Tomorrow I'll post the nails I did for this day. I think I've figured out Blogger's post scheduling feature so they *should* post tomorrow. They get their own post because there's some stamp testing involved!

Knott's Berry Farm Adventures & Zebra Nails

A coupla weeks ago, I went to Knott's Berry Farm with my family. For those who don't know, Knott's Berry Farm is a theme park in Southern California, home to Charlie Brown & The Peanuts, Camp Snoopy, lots of fun rides, Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant, and boysenberry everything. It's awesome!

I did my nails with regular zebra print to match my shorts using Konad m57 and Wet N' Wild Wild Shine French White Creme and Black Creme. I had originally thought of trying out a frame manicure but it was 2am and I had to get up early the next day to get in as much valuable time as possible going on rides. :]

If you go to Knott's, this is what you'll see at the gate. This is the Silver Bullet. I sat that one out but my cousin and uncle were brave enough to go on it!

Here's my cousin and I, can you tell we're excited? I'm on the left with the Cookie Monster hat. Our swag was at 100% that day. Heck, any occasion when I can unabashedly wear my Cookie Monster hat is an occasion when my swag will be at 100%! Also, I kind of hate the word swag because of how overused it is! Yay!

That's us in jail. The picture that no theme park visit is complete without. Don't ask me what's up with my pose. It's very Vogue Zoolander-ish, don'tcha think? I think some of the people at the park wanted to toss us in real jail because of how loud we were.

We ate lunch that day at Pink's. Pink's is a world famous hot dog place in Hollywood and they decided to open one up at the park. Of course, I ate before we got there, so I wasn't hungry. I did however snag some food from my relatives and I must say it was quite good. :]

That's us in Pink's. See that big wooden coaster in the background? That's Ghostrider. I rode it once and still can't believe that I did. It was closed that day though, which kinda sucked.

This is outside of Pink's. Wanna know what's behind it?
For some reason, my cousin and I kept giggling at this. We were sitting right by it inside. Imagine if someone did stick their head through the hole and got stuck?

That's all! The family vacation picture reel is over. Knott's is one of my favorite places to go to. <3 Hope you all enjoyed it!
